Microsoft said the avatars will be removed “due to low engagement,” and the Xbox Avatar Editor app will disappear. So if you want to use an avatar as your profile picture, you have to do so before January.
Starting November 1, 2023, any players who purchased items for their Xbox Avatar on Xbox One or Series X/S will receive a refund.
Microsoft clarified that this change will not affect Xbox 360 avatars, officially called “Xbox Original Avatars.” These will continue to exist in games and apps that support them for the time being.
