Choi and Shin were unaware of each other’s fates until they met again in 1983 at a dinner hosted by Kim Jong Il. Pulgasari (1985), while convincing the world that they were willing to serve North Korea. Cui Hexin’s love slowly rekindled in the prison of the reunion. It wasn’t until the 1986 Vienna Film Festival that they escaped, in a daring car chase to the US Embassy.
