Three unlikely brands have come together to launch their latest special edition board game.
A partnership between Nike, Hasbro and Victory Creative Group (LeBron James’ marketing team) brings us Monopoly: LeBron James Deluxe Edition. The game commemorates James’ 22nd year in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
“It’s an honor to partner with Nike to showcase the legacy and career of LeBron James through a unique medium like the MONOPOLY board game,” said Jonathan Silva, co-owner and CEO of WS Game Company. The game has been carefully designed with hidden details throughout to pay tribute to LeBron’s legendary career on and off the court as he embarks on his 22nd season and celebrates his 22nd signature shoe with Nike.”
The motherboard will also be showcased at an event for children at James’ I Promise School on National Monopoly Day on November 19th. The event will be held at House 330 in Akron and will focus on using Hasbro’s classic Monopoly game as a tool to increase financial literacy in children.
While the Monopoly game has all the classic rules and gameplay, other components differ from the LeBron theme. Instead of a classic railroad, the position on the board represents James’ four NBA championships. The tokens include James’ Nike shoes, jersey, Nike basketball with James’ logo, a lion and a crown. his latest signature shoe LeBron XXIIrepresented by blue-plated tokens.
In addition, Nike and Hasbro also released two new versions of the latest LeBron XXII shoe: a currency featuring Monopoly money, and a Monopoly token-themed token. While the board game is only available to “LeBron’s closest friends,” the shoes will be available at Nike retailers starting today and on Nike.com starting November 19th.
