Sony released a new ad for the PlayStation 5 titled “Play Has No Limits” on Tuesday to commemorate the PlayStation 5’s fourth anniversary since its launch in 2020. No one would think twice about it, unless fans spotted a seemingly innocent but potentially telling moment referencing the December date. Could Sony be planning a last-minute PlayStation showcase for its 30th anniversary?

This discovery is Share on Reddit and point to the 0:47 mark in the YouTube video below. When the arrival bar changes to the PlayStation symbol, a train station timetable appears with the numbers 03 12 20:24. Some fans are wondering if this is meant to hint at a possible December 3, 2024 event. Maybe the last State of Play or a larger live event is a sign of the future of the PS5?
It’s an achievable goal, but there are a few things that make it feel within the realm of possibility. First, commenters pointed out that there is precedent for Sony holding a December event. Once upon a time, in the PS4 generation, it hosted PlayStation experience event for fans. While these were retired many years ago, Sony did hold a special event Operation status in December 2019 Commemorating the 25th anniversary of PlayStation. These include the following announcements: Resident Evil 3 remake, Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC, and ghost of tsushima tease. This December marks the 30th anniversary.
Overall, this also feels like a weird year for PS5 releases. Sony’s standard Summer 2024 showcase has been relegated to State of Play, and despite a plethora of exclusive games coming to consoles this year, players still don’t have much insight into what 2025 will hold. More Sucker Punch content The Ghost of Mount YoteiHideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2and a potential release date for Insomniac Wolverine. The company recently committed to releasing at least one big new first-party single-player exclusive game every year.
There’s another major event taking place next month: the Geoff Keighley Gaming Awards. We’re likely to see a big reveal from Sony at the show, which is scheduled to take place on December 12, and which attracts more and more visitors every year. Or maybe the company wants to lay the groundwork with its own State of Play earlier this month and then use Keighley’s show to give a second, more in-depth look at what’s already been revealed.
Or maybe a few still frames in random PlayStation ads don’t actually mean anything. Either way, we’ll find out soon enough.
