LEGO’s new holiday event is here, and it’s a quick reminder to families that while disasters may happen, there’s nothing more important this holiday than playing together. To spread the word, LEGO created a new holiday mascot, a black-and-white cat wearing a red and white beanie named Cataclaws.
In an ad for the LEGO Group, Cataclaws travels the globe rescuing children and adults from holiday boredom, bad haircuts and ennui, flooding towns and homes with tons of LEGO bricks for tweens, tweens, grandparents and wild kids alike. The animals resume playing. In a galaxy far, far away, Yoda is inspired to give Darth Vader a Christmas sweater decorated with claws.
The LEGO Group is going all out to promote its heroes, selling ugly holiday sweaters for the minifigures in stores at the LEGO Minifigure Factory. The company posted a short how-to video on Pinterest for Lego fans eager to make a red and white Cataclaws beanie.
“We are excited to bring Cataclaws to life and finally release her into the world,” said Nic Taylor, senior vice president and head of LEGO Organization. “She represents the innate creativity of children and reminds us that our imaginations are limitless when we build with LEGO bricks and share those special moments with family and friends through play.”
There’s much more in store than just holiday sweaters: Starting November 11, LEGO’s annual “Build to Give” campaign encourages builders to share the “superpower of play.” Through December 31, LEGO will donate a set to a child in need for every heart built with LEGO bricks in-store or shared online using the hashtag #BuildToGive. Since launching its campaign in 2017, the LEGO Group has donated money to more than 9.1 million children.
The company also plans to host Lego parties in select stores for Lego fans to share their superpowers. Builders can build festive minifigures such as Santa Claus on a surfboard and, of course, Talon.
