At the start of season one, Caitlin is shown to be a good-hearted citizen of Piltover, even if she doesn’t understand the realities of the world. As a rookie law enforcer, she wants to uphold justice and the law, but after joining forces with Vi and being drawn into the city’s larger conflicts, she quickly discovers that no one is free of blood on their hands. Vee opens up to her about the humanity of Zaun’s residents, while the betrayal of the evil enforcer above her shows her that maybe things aren’t all black and white. Even after the final skirmish in season 1, Caitlin seemed like the one person who truly wanted to change the relationship between Zaun and Piltover, for the good of both parties.
Of course, if her mother died, things would change. Season two has already set Caitlin on a path to war, but grief may temporarily blind her. With the Council under attack, Catelyn now appears to be the leader of the city, with Jinx taking on a similar role in Zaun. Maybe these two will still find a way to overcome the cycle of violence their city has been trapped in for years.
