Brave the storm with Bill Nye in this VR experience
- A fun fact that doesn’t need to be a complete sentence or punctuation
- Contains a 40-page guide with information and experiments
- Using VR to put kids in the middle of a natural disaster
what is it
Designed for children ages 8 and up, Bill Nye’s Xtreme Weather VR is a fun way to learn about natural disasters and how they occur. The learning adventure consists of three parts: use the included guide to learn about natural hazards, experiment with included supplies and diagrams, and experience a natural hazard in virtual reality (VR)! To access the VR component of the kit, kids will need to download Bill Nye’s VR Science Squad application to a mobile phone or similar device. Then, using the activation code in the guide, kids can unlock the Xtreme Weather VR section. Kids can place their phone into the included VR headset to experience thunderstorms, avalanches and other disasters in virtual reality, or use full-screen mode to share the experience with friends.
why we like it
Children often feel disconnected when they learn about natural disasters. Sometimes, you need to see them in person to believe their importance. With this VR kit, kids can step into these disasters and experience them safely. The accompanying experiments also let kids learn first-hand about air pressure, wind speed, temperature, and more.
Important things to know
Children may feel nauseous when using VR, especially if they have never used VR before. If children are prone to illness, they can use an alternative setting that puts the VR scenes into 360-degree mode so children can explore them via their mobile phones.
very suitable
