Following up on last week, Yuki (disguised as Ningji’s cousin) now joins his class. Her main goal seems to be to return to normal, but there also seems to be an element of her wanting to serve him as a maid, even at school. So when lunchtime rolls around, one of those rare Katsuda bread days, chaos always ensues: on the one hand, you have the student body, where this bread has a loyal following of fans who are willing to scurry around to see to get this bread. And then there’s Yuki: loves the sauce, hates the FOMO it induces (don’t we?). Of course, her goal is clear: to obtain this legendary Katsuda bread. Her obstacles: the traffic from hungry classmates, and the fact that her and Hitoyoshi’s classroom is the furthest away from Bread.
Are you familiar with an anime? box lunch? This is a funny animation aired in 2011. It tells the story of people fighting over discounts. box lunch In the grocery store. If this sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is. It’s completely ridiculous, but I love it. I remember watching it when it aired and the running joke was that it was an anime about people having shounen anime-style battles over lunch. marvelous. I must say: out of all anime Servant lady Maybe it reminds me, I don’t know if I can guess it easily box lunch. But that’s what happened this week, and that’s what I’m here for.
Looking at Yuki Naruto Without a doubt, running and jumping from the rooftop for Katsuda Bread was the highlight of the episode. Like last week, it’s great when the series really dips into silliness – and I think, at this point, it’s safe to say that moments like these are its shining moments. The concept, the dramatic camera angles, the dynamic (and fantastically animated) action – the whole thing feels a bit over-the-top, very typical of animation. For a show whose concept is so contrived in 2024, it’s a perfect fit.
In case you didn’t notice it: I love the part about Katsuda bread. But I don’t care so much about the sequence that follows: the scene where she feeds Renji, and we see the show trying to build some romantic tension between the two. But personally, I just don’t feel much chemistry between the two of them. In fact, the whole thing feels forced. Maybe I’ll change my mind as the series progresses (or more specifically: as Yuki and her life continue to seek change), but for now, I just don’t think this series needs a romance component; at least for now, I think I’d rather watch Yuki continue her quest for normalcy without the dynamic between her and Hitoyoshi getting weird. So, that said I hope this element is dropped, it ends up being a weird phenomenon. I don’t necessarily think it will happen, but I can dream.
And then we have the school nurse – in true anime fashion, she’s actually another assassin from Yuki’s past. I know she’s not actually the school nurse – in fact, she’s almost certainly just there to get Yuki back – but it doesn’t make for a scene where she’s flirting with him and then suddenly she’s on top of him in bed, anything Less uncomfortable. She eventually tried to treat it as a joke, but I don’t think anyone believed that. While I always wished the anime would tell us more details about Yuki’s backstory, that’s not what I wanted. I’d love to be wrong about this, but unfortunately when I made this wish I started thinking the monkey’s paws were curled.
As a closing note, dubbing Servant lady For its debut, I gave it a watch. Our protagonists Yuki and Hitoyoshi Nishimura Trina and Abhi Kumarrespectively. Of course, Nishimura is an industry icon—among many other roles, she played Kurisu Makise in The Movie. Steins;GateKyoka Jiro is from my hero academiaand of course Mikasa Ackerman from attack on titan (Incidentally, she also voices one of the main characters – Sen Yarizui – from box lunch). In comparison, Kumar is a newcomer to the world of anime dubbing, with only a few notable roles under his belt. There haven’t been many characters in the show so far, so that means the two of them will be taking on this voice role, and they both seem to be doing a great job. I have to give special praise to Kumar; when Hitoyoshi and Yuki meet, Hitoyoshi tries to stay calm but is panicking inside. Kumar sells so well that I don’t even need to keep the receipt. But that doesn’t mean Nishimura lets herself fade into the background – in fact, especially in any moments involving sauce, she always ends up stealing the show.
