This week’s retro trailer takes us back to the 1971 British folk horror film Satan’s Claw Blood. The film is set in the English countryside in the 17th century and begins when a farmer named Ralph Gower discovers a strange, misshapen skull while plowing his fields.
After a local judge dismissed his concerns, a series of bizarre events began to unfold. Mysterious fur begins to appear on the bodies of young villagers, and they are soon affected by evil forces.
Young people form a satanic cult, performing dark rituals and human sacrifices to worship the demonic entity, gradually revealing its evil presence in the community.
As the evil influence spreads, the people of the town, led by the judge, must face this growing terror. The disturbing imagery and unsettling tone of the village’s young men’s gradual descent into madness make blood on satan’s claws A great example of folk horror, as well as other classics such as wicker man and Witch Hunting General.
Directed by Pierce Haggard, the film’s moody mood and slow-burn tension is a wild exploration of the dark forces lurking beneath the surface of a seemingly peaceful countryside.
