Michael Cera and Emilia Jones are tying their shoes running man.
The two actors have reached a deal to star alongside Glen Powell in Paramount’s adaptation of the Stephen King story, to be directed by Edgar Wright. For Cera, the move reunites him with the filmmaker behind one of his beloved characters, 2010s romantic slacker Scott Pilgrim. scott pilgrim vs. the world.
Josh Brolin, Katie O’Brien (love lies bleed) and Lee Pace are already on the slate for the film, which will be shot in London early next year.
king’s running ManPublished in 1982 under the pen name Richard Bachman, the book takes place in the United States in 2025, where a totalitarian regime uses violent game shows to appease the disenfranchised masses.
The novel centers on a desperate man named Ben Richards, who needs money to care for his sick daughter, who takes part in the most popular show, running manin which a team of killers hunt down contestants. The longer contestants survive, the more money they earn. But as the game show’s producers and killers will discover, this desperate man will break all the rules and reveal the show’s dark secrets.
Jones will play a privileged woman who turns a blind eye to government oppression, opposite Powell’s Richards.
Serra will play a naive rebel who tries to help desperate people.
Meanwhile, Brolin plays the game show’s ruthless producer, O’Brien will play one of the show’s contestants, and Pace plays the ruthless chief hunter who tracks down Powell.
Paramount Pictures will release the film on November 21, 2025.
