Ray Warnerdirector of universal pictures invisible man and werewolfWanting to continue directing monster movies for Universal, he recently revealed the next project he’d like to take on.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Whannell was asked which other monster movie he would like to make, and he replied “Jekyll and Hyde.”
Whannell explained: “I always thought of Jekyll and Hyde. The concept of that book really creeped me out when I was a kid. Of all the monsters, that one was the one that really stayed with me.
“It’s kind of weird that the hero and the villain are the same person. I think it’s going to be a really good modern version of Jekyll and Hyde. I don’t know exactly what it’s going to be.
I love the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and being a fan of the original film adaptation, I thought Whannell would turn it into a wild horror movie.
The book, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, tells the story of Dr. Henry Jekyll, a respected London physician who was tormented by his own dark impulses.
In order to distinguish between his good and evil sides, Jekyll creates a potion that transforms him into Mr. Edward Hyde, a violent and morally bankrupt alter ego who embodies all the base desires and cruelty that Jekyll tries to hide. .
As Hyde, Jekyll indulges in increasingly cruel and destructive behavior, eventually losing control of his transformation. The climax of the story is the discovery that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person.
This is a fascinating story as it explores the duality of human nature and the struggle between good and evil within each person. The fear of losing control of one’s dark self, coupled with the moral implications of Jekyll’s experiment, make it a powerful and disturbing story.
