Spain’s most prestigious film school has launched the second phase of its annual Dream Makers competition, opening the door to a new generation of talent.
The Superior School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia (ESCAC) has confirmed that it is accepting applications for a chance to win a four-year full scholarship to the school and nearly €500,000 towards the production of a short film.
Applicants first need to create an eight-minute original film based on three words chosen by JA Bayona, ESCAC and Spanish car company Cupra: Barcelona, cinema and eyes.
Bayona attended the school (jurassic world, Orphanage, Impossible), he will also be a member of the original short film collection jury.
The jury also includes Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths, Oscar-nominated actor Daniel Brühl (hurry, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, Inglourious Basterds), ESCAC Rector Sergi Casamitjana, ESCAC Development Director Aintza Serra and Sitges Film Festival Director Ángel Sala.
“We need to empower young students,” Casamijana told hollywood reporterexplained that more than 400 applications were received last year. “With this competition, they will be able to make a movie with a lot of money. They will have a lot of resources and materials to make a very complex short film.

ESCAC is very selective, with 300-400 applications per year for only 80-90 students. British students Hansel Rodrigues and Lizzie Atherton have won the first stage of the Dream Makers short film competition with their film looking for and Martha Garcia Alb bait.
