Despite its brutality, Jayanto describes the film in a way as a hidden coming-of-age film.

“In the end, the character learns one of life’s hardest lessons – things are not always under your control,” he explains. “Even if you try to make things better, things can get worse.”

The director said he chose 20-year-old Aurora Ribero for the lead role after seeing her breakout performance in the teen drama. Like and share.

“When it comes to action, anyone with the will and spirit to train can eventually perform it – but you don’t see that humanity in every performer,” Tjahjanto said. “Aurora has a millionth of innocence in her eyes.”

Indeed, from beginning to end Shadow WandererRibeiro oscillates between poignant vulnerability and unbridled rage. According to her director, the actress’s work is so impressive because she fulfills both requirements convincingly.

“People tend to underestimate how physically demanding it is when making an action film, and that’s even more true for Aurora in this project, as she has to maintain a delicate balance between being vulnerable and convincing as a killjoy. Machine,” he explained. “The journey she went through behind the scenes was just as difficult as what she went through on screen. It’s easy to take the genre for granted – to say, ‘Oh, it’s just another POW! Poof! action movie’ – but it’s The commitment required is incredible.

Ribeiro, who came into the project with no action film experience, spent four months training intensively with Tjahjanto’s team of veteran stunt choreographers. Early in her preparation, she had a moment of breakdown and doubted whether she would be able to continue.

“I think it’s one of the bravest things I’ve ever done in my life,” she said. “I felt lost at first. I did yoga, so I thought I was flexible, but it turns out I also need to be strong. But once you get into a routine, you build muscle memory.

Jahajanto admits that he himself struggled to fit into the stunt movie stereotype.

“In the movie I just shot, no one 2“I think a lot of Hollywood stuntmen and choreographers are expecting some muscular guy with a stunt background to arrive on set,” he said. “Instead, they found this scrawny Asian guy.”

He added: “I’m known as an action director, but that’s funny because the type of film I really enjoy is human drama.”

The filmmaker stated that he strives to Shadow WandererCharacters with human complexity wouldn’t look out of place in a Kurosawa classic. But he also wanted to create an unforgiving world for his story—”darker, moodier, with a neo-noir aesthetic.”

“I think there’s room for violent action movies,” he explains. “Not every action movie has to be a superhero movie. I don’t have any problem with superhero movies. But action movies are ultimately made for adults. I want adults to see that and be able to say, ‘Yeah , this is what happens if you stick a sword into a man’s neck.

When asked what he hopes to bring from Indonesian action cinema to Hollywood with his upcoming film with Odenkirk no one 2Jahajanto put it bluntly: “I hope this is cruel.”
