One week after the announcement Bobby CurnowIDW Publishing has returned to the company as its new editor-in-chief and unveiled a new logo that will appear on all of its books starting in 2025. Nathan WidickThe redesign combined the initials of Idea and Design Works into a single imprint, emphasizing “comics and entertainment” rather than its registered name.
“This rebrand gave us the opportunity to redefine IDW’s entire identity from the ground up. Along the way, we went through hundreds of different designs, concepts and ideas, including a major push to redesign our classic light bulb logo.
“Ultimately, we decided that rather than looking back to the past, we should look to the future and show the world IDW’s new, bold direction with a dynamic and innovative image,” he continued. “The simple yet effective combination of the company’s identifying letters presented in a dynamic forward perspective perfectly captures the energy and inspiring attitude we hope to foster in the next era of IDW.”

CEO and Publisher David Jonas echoed their sentiments. “This rebrand embodies our strategic vision to drive IDW Publishing into a future of possibility,” said Jonas. “It represents our commitment to originality and excellence as we continue to lead the comics industry. and underscores our resilience and readiness to adapt to the rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
The sign prompted a very mixed response, including beatIn my own Slack workspace, several of us (myself included) have expressed confusion about where to place the W. (It includes the lower half of the symbol, which is unclear to others.) Regardless, this is a clear statement of intent from IDW. Despite its troubles, the publisher plans to stick around beyond its 25th anniversary this year.
