Who doesn’t want to see more of the best spy shows on TV? mutton? river? Taverna? Oh, of course – yes, please!
Slow Horse has officially been renewed for a sixth season and we couldn’t be more excited!
While we already knew a fifth season was coming and would pick up after Frank Harkness’ deadly scheme, Apple TV+ has given the green light to another season of our favorite misfit spy.
Yes, the show will continue to bring you more thrilling and chaotic spy fun. Apple’s announcement comes less than two weeks after the explosive Season 4 finale of “Slow Horse.”
There is much to look forward to.
Season five will be based on Mick Herron’s London Rules, and we can only speculate that season six will be based on Joe Country, the next book in the Slough House series.
With so many books to adapt, this train isn’t stopping anytime soon.
Jay Hunt, European Creative Director of Apple TV+, said it best: “Audiences around the world fell in love with Slow Horse.”
“I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading a star-studded cast in another acerbic, action-packed adventure,” he added.
The best (and worst) spies in the game
Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is the heart of the show – an old-school spy who’s as rough around the edges as they come, but man, does he know how to get the job done.
In the Season 4 finale, we got to see a rare, almost fatherly moment between Lamb and River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) after all the chaos.
Underneath all this sarcasm, Lamb actually cares about his team, and his dynamic with River is one of the highlights of the show.
River may be a bit of a mess, but isn’t that why we love him? He’s been through a lot of trauma and mistakes, but when push came to shove, he had Lamb’s guidance to keep him steady.
Plus, the entire ensemble—Louisa, J.K. Coe, Shirley, Roddy Ho, and yes, even Katherine—make Slough House feel like the best (and worst) spy team around.
Sure, we lost Marcus (RIP), but Frank Harkness is still there, and there’s plenty of shenanigans on the horizon, so there’s no shortage of drama.
Who else is ready to see badass Diana Taverner take down Claude Whelan or watch our team deliver his comeuppance?
Slow horse stands out
With the advent of spy thrillers like Peacock’s Day of the Jackal and Netflix’s Black Dove, there’s no shortage of cryptic content on our screens.
But let’s face it: the slow horse reigns supreme.
What sets it apart isn’t just the action (although there’s plenty of it), but how it blends sharp intelligence with messy, complex, yet real characters.
These aren’t your picture of elegant superspies – they’re flawed, funny, and sometimes downright messy, and that’s what makes them so memorable.
It’s this combination of grit and charisma that makes Slow Horse so unique. No other series balances explosive drama with truly human moments quite like this one.
Sure, new contenders might hit the spy genre, but none of them have the misfit magic of Slough House.
