Things are going from bad to worse for Joker: Pas de Deux , and Warner Bros. has apparently scheduled its digital release.
When the first Joker was released in 2019, it surprised almost everyone by making a full billion dollars and changing the box office. It’s no surprise that Warner Bros. decided to greenlight the sequel, which I might add has a production budget of $200 million and a marketing and distribution budget of $100 million. How was the opening weekend? The bad thing is that of all the movies, it made even less money than Morbius.

The film was just in its second weekend, with a domestic box office of $7 million, a significant drop of 81% from its first weekend, the largest second weekend box office drop for a comic book movie in history. That’s tough and means Warner Bros. will end up losing $100 million to $200 million. However, this item cannot be written off through taxation, can it?
What Warner Bros. can do, though, is release it digitally, and according to Variety , that’s exactly what it’s going to do. The outlet says that “Joker: Folie a Deux” will be released on digital home entertainment on October 29, which is still two weeks away at the time of writing and less than a month away from release.
Variety’s box office analysts say it’s believed director Todd Phillips’ choice to include songs and dance in the sequel could alienate the DC fan base, especially compared to the dark first installment. “The first ‘Joker’ was a timely, fresh rebuttal to mainstream superhero narratives and tone, and it worked,” said David A. Gross, an analyst at film consultancy Franchise Entertainment Research. Folie” deserves praise for making more unconventional creative choices and adding Lady Gaga’s romantic angle. But this time nothing worked. ”
I guess now we’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens with Matt Reeves’ take on the Joker, or if James Gunn is planning to do anything with the DCCU’s new version of Batman.
