The co-creator of RuneScape’s next MMO, Brighter Shores, suffered a full-day delay because apparently some elections were about to take place.
Hey, did you know there’s an election coming up in the United States? You might have missed the fact that no matter where you’re from, even if you don’t live in the United States, you won’t be in the news for months on end, but hey, it’s the only country that matters in the entire world, right? It turns out that RuneScape co-founder Andrew Gower was a bit oblivious to this fact, because before this week, his latest MMORPG, Brighter Shores, was scheduled to release into early access on November 5th. Election Let’s be honest, it’s easy to forget what happened on the same day. Ouch Daisy!

“We’ve decided to push the launch of Coast of Light to November 6th because there’s apparently some kind of election event on the 5th – who knew?!” Gall tweeted, apparently a bit tongue-in-cheek. Now, Gower is British, so it would indeed be understandable if he and the rest of the development team didn’t realize that their game was releasing on the same day as a massive election, but those mistakes have now been corrected . Now, everyone across the ocean can go out and vote without having to worry about missing Brightcoast time (assuming there are no server issues, anyway).

Brighter Shoes actually has a closed beta that starts on October 22nd, so at least some of you will be able to try it out around the same time. On Steam, the game is explained like this: “Lightcoast is a new adventure game created by award-winning MMORPG designer Andrew Gower. Explore a land full of magic and mystery, with a large number of professions to choose from. Experiment, there are new discoveries around every corner.
Whether it can fully capture the magic of RuneScape is another question, but most people will just have to wait another day to find out.
