Atlus has a clear winner with Metaphor: ReFantazio, as the game is now the developer’s fastest-selling game ever.
We obviously know that Atlus will continue to draw inspiration from the Persona series with new numbered entries, re-releases, and spin-offs, but considering how well the new Metaphor: ReFantazio performs, I guess we’ll see More of that world too. Atlus said earlier this week that the game had sold over 1 million copies on launch day – Persona 3: Reloaded quickly reached the same sales earlier this year, but it took a few days It took time to reach this number. The news also comes with a brand new illustration by character designer Shigenori Soejima, if you want to take a look.

Metaphor: ReFantazio’s stellar performance isn’t just reflected in its sales velocity, but sales on Steam look very healthy as well. As of today, the game has peaked at nearly 78,500 concurrent players (via SteamDB), which is a very healthy number for a massive single-player RPG like this. By comparison, Persona 3: Reloaded peaked at 45,000 players, still strong, but a full 30,000 fewer than Metaphor: ReFantazio. I think it’s safe to say that this is a new series from Atlus, if only it’ll do better than the Persona games (even if that’s a remake).
Metaphor: Reviews from ReFantazio are also very good, including our own Dom, who gave it 5/5 stars, writing: “Each individual thread is woven together to form something completely unusual in Metaphor. It’s Possibly Atlus’ masterpiece; well presented, fully realized, and completely unashamedly a great, goofy, fantasy role-playing genius, don’t be put off by the fact that it doesn’t wear the Masked moniker, if you like Anything about role playing.
You can buy Metaphor: ReFantazio now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
