But hey, it’s an idea! The game features an extensive technology tree, called the Creative Tree, where you can unlock new advancements that will make it easier for you to survive the frozen apocalypse. In order to get it, you need to build a research institute.
Here’s how to set up and use Institute Frostpunk 2!
How to build a research institute
To place the Institute, you need a secondary housing area. It’s not enough to build some housing because it’s not big enough to accommodate building upgrades. Instead, place the housing area, select it when construction is complete, and then select the upgrade option – the leftmost icon at the bottom of the popup that appears. It looks like four arrows expanding outward.
Of course, extensions are not free. You will need prefabs and heat stamps to expand the housing area. However, this is not too It’s expensive, and at this point, it’s worth it to unlock the tech tree.
With the housing area upgraded to the second level, select the Building Construction menu from the HUD in the lower right corner. The illustration looks like a building or a stack of boxes. Select the Research Institute under Housing and place it in your newly expanded area to start research!
What to research first in Frostpunk 2
You’ll need to pick and choose wisely, as you can only research one idea at a time, and progress is relatively slow—unless you refine your research through other research throughout the settlement. You need to prioritize urban issues like heating and food production before delving into necessary but less important projects. Here is a short list of research to prioritize:
- Thermal insulation of the shell: As the population grows, so does the need for heating to ensure everyone’s life and happiness. Housing Insulation reduces the base heat requirement of all housing zones from 40 to 20, further stretching your heating budget.
- Hospital: Hospitals under the Social category help reduce the risk of widespread disease and regularly treat people who are absent due to illness to keep your workforce rotating.
- filter tower: Filtration towers are extensions to residential areas that help reduce the dirtiness of the city, which is crucial because you’ll be spending a lot of resources investing in industrial areas that can significantly increase dirtiness.
- sawmill: Your settlement constantly requires additional resources to fund future growth, and material proof is the most important. The Sawmill upgrades your extraction zone, requiring a building slot to produce additional materials and expand your opportunities.
- interpersonal relationships: Just as you need ever-increasing resources, you also need an ever-increasing workforce to meet such demand and continue production. Relationships found under the social tree can increase population growth!
