The NFT community is known for its dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm, and a community best embodies these characteristics: interpreter.
Since being minted on Solana in 2021, it has quickly become one of the most well-known and popular NFT series among blockchain enthusiasts thanks to its transparent leadership, culture-focused direction, and community-first mantra – but How did it get to this point?
Here’s our complete guide to the 2024 DeGods.
What is God?
DeGods is a collection of 10,000 unique avatar NFTs, originally minted on Solana in October 2021. From backgrounds and hairstyles to clothing, glasses and other accessories.
The series quickly became popular due to its unique practicality. Holders will be able to mine $DUST tokens, and future initiatives include access to NFT tracking app DYOR, exclusive merchandise, and more.
DeGods is a product of DeLabs, a company that has three main characters; Frank DeGods (Rohun Vora), Kevin DeGods (Kevin Henrikson) and Finn DeGods – who announced their departure in August 2023.
As of today, DeGods exist on all three leading NFT blockchains: Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin, and holders continue to benefit from an ever-expanding list of features and utility, including conversion to DeadGods NFTs (using $DUST) , access to DeDAO, and – most recently – interaction with the $DEGOD token.
The history of Jie Shen
DeGods was minted on October 8, 2021 and sold for 3 SOL. Due to demand and technical issues, all 10,000 NFTs sold out within 7 seconds.
To mitigate the anticipated drop in floor prices, DeGods instituted the “Paper Hand Bitch Tax,” which imposed a 33.3% tax on anyone who priced their DeGods below the floor. Any funds collected from this tax are used to purchase and destroy DeGods NFTs, reducing the overall supply.
When Paper Hands Bitch Tax ceases on January 1, 2022, the total supply has been reduced to 9,465 units – but this is just the beginning of this series of innovative initiatives.
In January 2022, DeGods launched the $DUST token, and with it came DeadGods. Holders can stake their DeGods to earn $DUST and can then upgrade their DeGods to DeadGods with 1,000 $DUST. This reignited interest and solved the aesthetic problems of DeGods.
In April 2022, DeDAO decided to acquire Big3 basketball team Killer 3 for $625,000, which brought DeGods into the mainstream market for the first time and provided holders with the option to benefit from the team’s intellectual property and licensing rights, as well as in the form of Opportunity to purchase an ownership stake in the number of NFTs.
In December 2022, DeGods announced plans to migrate from Solana to Ethereum, with completion in March 2023 – but not before the 535 DeGods that were previously destroyed returned as Bitcoin ordinal numbers in February 2023.
The chain jumping didn’t stop there, in May 2024, DeGods made the shocking move of migrating DeGods and y00ts (who spent the last year on Polygon) back to Solana, and now there is a bridge to support DeGods’ existence Solana, Bitcoin and Ethereum.
In September 2024, DeGods released the $DEGOD token – but as with all things DeGods, they took a unique approach. Holders can:
- Exchange DeGod NFT for 550,000 $DEGOD tokens
- Burn y00ts NFT to earn 120,000 $DEGOD tokens (regardless of rarity), or
- Burn 1 $DUST token to exchange for 36 $DEGOD tokens
Reactions have been mixed, with many concerned about the impact tying DeGods directly to the token could have on the floor price. In the short term, DeGods has dropped from 2.00 ETH on September 16 to 0.94 ETH at the time of writing, but the long-term impact is unclear.
What’s the future for the DeGods?
The DeGods always move forward with confidence – in fact, the team has stated that “DeGod” stands for “Do Great Things or Die” – and with that mantra at the heart of everything they do, we’re sure they will continue Make waves.
While $DEGOD’s debut has been met with mixed reviews, we’re sure the DeGods team has deeper utility for the token – though when that will be revealed is anyone’s guess.
They’re not afraid to push boundaries, challenge convention or go down the beaten path – and it’s this confidence that has earned them so many supporters so far.
Dust Labs is DeGods’ blockchain technology side project. With its chain-hopping expertise, it has begun developing software solutions for other NFT projects, which may bring further innovation to DeGods in the future.
DeDAO will play an important role in the development of DeGods. No matter where you go, from X to Discord and beyond, you can feel the passion of its members, ensuring that the interests of the DeGods team and its holders are always aligned.
With DeGos, you can expect the unexpected.
