    New art book explores 30 years of Mortal Kombat’s bloody visual history

    Mortal Kombat hit arcades more than 30 years ago, kicking off an ultra-violent franchise that now encompasses numerous video games, big-budget movies, comic books, and even an animated series. Fans will soon be able to delve deeper into the series’ bloody history with the upcoming art book Mortal Kombat: Perfect Victory, from the author of IDW Publishing’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. Sonic Frontier’s lead writer Ian Flynn. The $50 hardcover book will be released on August 5, 2025, and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

    According to the book’s Amazon store page, “Mortal Kombat: Perfect Victory” will include more than 300 pages of concept sketches, renderings and illustrations. The artwork will be exclusive to Interview with the NetherRealm Studios development team, comments by Flynnand get an inside look at fan-favorite characters like Scorpion, Raiden, and Liu Kang.

    While August 2025 is a bit of a long wait, the silver lining is that you won’t be charged until the book ships, and you’ll get it at the best price thanks to Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee.

    If you’re a fan of gaming history, you can now check out several other books covering a variety of consoles and games. Game Boy fans will want to check out The Game Boy Encyclopedia, a book that explores the hundreds of games released for the handheld console by veteran video game journalist Chris Scullion, who has also written several other books books on the subject,

    Florent Gorge also provides an in-depth look at Nintendo, and pre-orders for the long-awaited translated volumes three and four of the Nintendo History series are now available. If you want to learn about the secret history of this iconic video game company, books like “The History of the Famicom/NES” and “The History of the Game Boy” are must-reads. Finally, you can also check out the beautiful hardcover edition produced by Bitmap Books. These books cover a wide range of topics, from box art to horror games, making them the best coffee table books if you’re looking for something eye-pleasing.
