A new trailer for Yakuza: Like a Dragon has been released, and it shows off more of Majima’s tongue than I expected.
With less than a month to go until the latest live-action adaptation of the beloved Yakuza series, a new trailer from Japan’s Prime Video YouTube channel gives us a fresh look at some established characters, such as Kazuma, the best man. Kiryu and his right-hand man Akira Nishikiyama. But this trailer is also for Goro Majima fans, as it offers the first look at what the fan-favorite character is up to. This particular incarnation of the character is played by Munetaka Aoki, and in this very brief trailer he really looks like he’s giving it his all (especially in the tongue part).
Interestingly, Aoki is actually doing double duty as a yakuza character, as the actor is also playing new character Teruhiko Shigaki in the recently announced (and seemingly wild) Yakuza: Pirates of the Gangster in Hawaii. You may have also seen him in last year’s Godzilla Minus One, as he was one of the main members of the cast. We haven’t heard him speak in any trailers yet, as Majima’s original voice actor Ugaki Hideari apparently has a pretty iconic voice for him, so this is one area we’ll have to wait and see if he can keep up with that. Game performance.
Don’t be too surprised if he’s different from Majima in the game, though, because back in July, live-action Kiryu actor Ryoma Takeuchi talked about playing the character, arguing that there’s no point in “trying.” He is doing things “his own way.”
“Yakuza: Like a Dragon” is currently scheduled to air on Prime Video on October 24 next month.
