Warning: Mild spoilers for the first few missions in Shattered Space.
Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC was released yesterday, and chances are you’ve already started playing with it, or if you couldn’t sleep, you might have binged it in a night. While I haven’t finished the latter yet, I did bring a base game companion with ties to House Varun for the games I’ve played so far. Should I take her with me too? Well, sort of, it seems like you might end up with a bug that makes it completely pointless.
Andreja is the companion I’m talking about here because all she’s about is that she’s a resident of the constellation House Va’ruuner and is definitely the one who brought Va’ruun back ‘kai), right? After all, this is her home planet, and if you become a good partner with her like my Star Wars protagonist did, she’ll probably become part of your crew.

I’ll start with the good news. I can confirm that if you do take Andrea with you – and I’m not the only one who has decided to do this – before you reach House Varun’s system and start exploring their capital, Dazira.
She’ll interject comments into several conversations, say a few words as you explore Dazira, and chat with you shortly after your arrival about her feelings about returning to the city and seeing its current plight. What I’m about to say may not come as a surprise to veteran Starfield players, but while she does provide some additional perspective on House Va’ruun, none of it actually seems to materially change the events at the start of the DLC and The way the mission plays out. If you show up alone like me, you won’t see much of a difference.
While this is a bit disappointing, some players have reported that things got worse after bringing Andreja on board, taking to Reddit to express how strange they found it to be that she didn’t say anything unique at all in her games . People seem to think this is due to some kind of bug that causes the dialogue snippet I mentioned not to trigger for some reason, and one of the articles brought up a long-standing issue with leadership perks or items/consumables that increase your access to companions Speed affinity is the culprit.
Fortunately, modder Deebz96 appears to have discovered a new instance of this issue affecting Andreja, which appears to be caused by a simple tweak to the companion’s actor value checking code, and has submitted a fix to the Starfield Community Patch Project.
