king’s running ManPublished in 1982 under the pen name Richard Bachman, the book takes place in the United States in 2025, where a totalitarian regime uses violent game shows to appease the disenfranchised masses.
The story revolves around a desperate man who needs money to care for his sick daughter, who takes part in the most popular show, running manin which a team of killers hunt down contestants. The longer contestants survive, the more money they earn. But as the game show’s producers and killers will discover, this desperate man will break all the rules and reveal the show’s dark secrets.
Powell plays the desperate man. O’Brien will be one of the contestants on the show. Paramount Pictures will release the film on November 21, 2025.
