MKBHD’s new wallpaper app is getting its first major update after users criticized it for being overpriced and advertising-based for free accounts. On Friday, the Panels account announced on X that people using the app for free can now download high-resolution images by watching a single ad, rather than just standard-definition images.
The app previously required users to pay $11.99 per month (or $49.99 per year) for a subscription to access full-resolution images. It also requires free users to watch two ads before downloading the SD wallpapers. Panels has since removed this requirement and now allows users to download SD images without seeing ads.
Additionally, Panels has removed ads from its Explore page (where you can find new wallpaper downloads) and added new artwork.
The update doesn’t include any changes to Panels Plus subscription pricing, but that’s no surprise since Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) said, “It’s a personal challenge for us to try to provide this kind of value to our users. Premium version. “
