first introduced in Mortal Kombat 11this single-player mode – where you are tasked with completing different objectives and challenges, fighting an artificial intelligence character to unlock perks, cosmetics and coins – operates differently Mortal Kombat 1and the game doesn’t do a good job of explaining the nuances. I’ve simplified below how this new mode works and why you might want to check it out.
What is the Tower of Time?
New Tower of Time mode Mortal Kombat 1 is its previous mix MK11 Iteration, and Gateway Portal Mesa MK1of invasion. They vary in difficulty and usually feature a variety of modifiers, half of which rotate every hour. You’ll be using the same warriors you built in Invasion mode, so be sure to level up your elemental strengths and equip your best relics.
The main reason you play this game is to get rewards and new Tower of Time challenges. They can also be a great way to level up in this mode and Invasion mode if you can defeat higher level enemies.
The towers are divided into three rows:
- In front are the three oldest towers. To the left is the new Legacy Tower, which offers character palettes from previous seasons as a bonus. In the middle is the arcade tower, which unlocks the fighter ending. Lastly is the returning Season Tower, which features exclusive character palette rewards based on the current season. One important change to the seasonal tower is that it now consists of seven battles instead of ten, and you can retry from the current battle instead of starting from the beginning.
- The middle row consists of six timing towers. They rotate every hour, albeit ten minutes apart. Their difficulty also increases from left to right.
- The rear tower is designed to promote immediate service content such as events or holidays. in order to launch Chaos reigns After the update, each of the new warriors has a tower: Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. if they do it again in the remaining time DLC warriorwhich would be a great way for players to try before buying.

How to check Tower of Time rewards
exist Mortal Kombat 11you can see the rewards for each tower as you scroll. This is useful if you want gear for a specific character and know which gear to prioritize. Mortal Kombat 1 The way of working is different.
Clicking L1 or LB (depending on your controller) while hovering over the Seasonal and Instant Service towers will reveal the rewards you will be able to win. It’s unclear whether future instant service towers will have the same functionality as the current character preview towers, but we can assume they will for now. The hourly tower in the middle doesn’t display any rewards, although in my experience it’s just different consumables rather than any palette.
What is the Tower of Time Challenge
For those who want more reasons to grind, Towers of Time has mode-specific challenges. Enter the pause menu to see the challenges on the left, which are divided into easy, difficult and weekly. On the right is a leveling system involving points, which I’ll get to shortly.
- Simple challenges rotate every hour, but new challenges immediately spawn upon completion. Clearing them will reward you with three points as well as a consumable, crafting component, or relic.
- Difficult challenges rotate daily, but you can also spawn another challenge after completing one. These will award you seven points and a similar item type to the Easy Challenge.
- Weekly Challenges rotate weekly. The main difference here is that they can only be cleared once per week, and the reward is 50 points and Dragon Crystal.
While you may just want to get the premium currency Dragon Crystals, it’s worth grinding for the points as well. Similar to Kombat League, you will be ranked based on the points you earn. As more players accumulate points, your ranking will naturally drop. This means that if you want to get the top rewards for ranking in the top 10% or top 5%, you need to keep working hard before the two-week timer runs out.
Future updates will also add points for the different towers themselves, not just the challenges. This should make the rankings less monotonous, but for now it’s best to focus on the challenges.
If you don’t like the drudgery of these games, this mode may not be for you. That being said, I do feel Mortal Kombat 1: Reign of ChaosTower of Time is less cumbersome than previous versions. It’s more convenient to check for ranked rewards every two weeks than to find out through social media that you only have a few hours to unlock rare skins.
Keep in mind that playing Invasion Mode will help buff your character’s stats for tougher battles. Keep conquering these towers and you’ll earn yourself a ton of awesome cosmetics that look great while brutalizing your opponents.
