Oni Press will continue to release more graphic novels this summer, with the latest hit being ESPADA: BLADE WILL. This is about to be translated Annabel Collazo’s Spain’s hit graphic novel No Mires Atrás, Encuentros Cercanos will be released in English for the first time, following French and German versions.
The story follows a young princess as she seeks to carve out her own destiny in a line of power. Here’s a synopsis from the publisher:
There was a time when magic was accessible to everyone, until a struggle for power attracted demons from another world and destroyed everything. . . The legend goes like this. However, there is another, completely apocryphal version, according to which a hero came to the kingdom carrying a sword to guide and protect its people. But who is this hero? Why is the Queen now the only one able to use magic? Fascinated by all these mysteries of the past, Anya, the kingdom’s princess and heir to the throne, will try to uncover the truth behind these magical fables – and now she’s just found a mysterious sword.
“Espada begins like many fantasy stories, with a chosen hero who is destined to fulfill his duty…but never does,” author and illustrator Anabel Collazo Colazo said. “Our protagonist happens to be in the right position, seizes an opportunity, and completes the hero’s unfinished business. I wanted to explore through the eyes of this character the many ways that power affects people, and what can happen to those who embrace it. Result. I really enjoy playing video games and exploring the world in the game feels like everything is part of a bigger picture in the story, so I tried to bring that feeling into Espada as well.
ESPADA: THE WILL OF THE BLADE will appear in comic shops and bookstores around the world in May 2025!
