Industry veteran Nathan Crowley will receive a special award for his achievements in production design at the upcoming 32nd festival in Toruń, Poland’s pioneering EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival revealed on Tuesday.
Crowley is best known for his long-running collaboration with Christopher Nolan, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Production Design. prestige, dark knight, Interstellar, Dunkirk and purpose (He’s also credited with Damien Chazelle’s first person). On the small screen, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in the HBO series western world. “Renowned for his practical approach to production design, Crowley excels at creating immersive, nuanced worlds that blend traditional and modern technology,” Camerimage organizers said in a statement.
Crowley began his career in Islington, London, after studying at Brighton College of Art in England. In the early 1990s, he moved to Hollywood, where he served as second unit artistic director for Francis Ford Coppola. Crowley’s career took him to Dublin, Ireland, where he worked on films directed by Barry Levinson and Joel Schumacher. His return to the United States proved crucial as he began his partnership with Nolan, from Insomnia 2002.
Outside of film, Crowley designed four exhibitions for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in conjunction with the Met Gala, and in collaboration with Sofia Coppola La Traviata at the Rome Opera House. He is also famous for designing the Hamilton Space Watch ODC X-03.
The EnergaCameriaimage Film Festival opens on November 16 with screenings Blitzkriegthe latest feature film from Academy Award winner Steve McQueen. Cate Blanchett was appointed as the chairperson of the main competition jury of the event. general Star Hiroyuki Sanada will take home the new honor of Best Performance in a Television Drama Series. EnergaCameriaimage holds the awards ceremony on November 23rd.
