Apple is preparing to launch new endeavors in the smart home field, starting with a rumored smart display that may be released next year. This is based on BurundiMark Gurman of Power on Today’s newsletter says the display will use a new operating system called homeOS, which is based on the Apple TV’s tvOS (much like the software that powers HomePods now).
Gurman reports that the display will run Apple apps like Calendar, Notes, and Home, and that Apple has already tested a wall-mounted prototype with magnets. It will support Apple Intelligence – a feature that Apple HomePods currently don’t support.
Another recent rumor suggests that the upcoming “Home Accessory” device will be square and users may be able to control it using gestures from a distance, as 9 to 5 Written earlier this week. and mike rumor Reported apparent code references to this device and homeOS.
Such a display sounds more practical than Apple’s robot screen idea. It’s also likely to be less cumbersome and hopefully cheaper than trying to use an iPad as a dedicated smart home controller (I’ve tried that; it’s not a great experience!) We’ll know if and when it’s released – here It’s not meant to sound far out.
