Due to the deep lore and giant creatures in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, it can be intimidating for novice players who haven’t played these games before. However, the latest preview of the next installment of Monster Hunter Wilds focuses on setting up the game for both new and returning players. Think of it as Monster Hunter 101, as described by Alma, the game’s handler.
The player character is a hunter who is exploring the forbidden land. The Hunter’s expedition includes Alma, a female blacksmith named Gemma, and a Palico, a feline companion who aids the player in battle, also appears in the world. Multiple teams also embark on the journey to reunite the young boy Natar with his people and defeat the monster that drove them away: Arkveld, the White Ghost.
Over time, the game’s creatures adapt to the expedition’s presence, meaning players must change their strategies as needed. It also explains that the different terrains of the Forbidden Land will come into play during combat. But surviving in the wild also means that the hunter must secure food with the help of his entourage.
Another aspect of the game is the hunter’s relationship with their Seikret, a bird-like bipedal beast that can be ridden like a horse. When things go wrong in a fight with a monster, Seikfret can keep players out of harm’s way. Likewise, hunters can send out distress calls during combat to avoid being overwhelmed or even killed. Some threats in the game are simply impossible to deal with without backup.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 28, 2025.
