Oni Press has just announced that a new graphic novel will be published in summer 2025. “Meat Eaters” is a story told and created by a famous cartoonist Meredith McLaren He is the co-creator of the critically acclaimed series Blackcloak. This comic is a punishing and poignant original graphic novel about the monsters that lurk outside of us and in the darkness within us.
“‘Meat Eaters’ is an ode to all the teen horror TV shows I’ve loved watching over the years,” said author and illustrator Meredith McClaren. “There are bad things in the world, and sometimes they hurt you and sometimes they change you in ways you don’t like.”
This is the premise of the story:
It can be said that death is difficult. Nineteen-year-old Ashley Moore discovered this the hard way. All Ashley wants is to put her head down and work hard until she can escape the small town where she feels stagnant. But one night, when Ashley wakes up covered in blood and irrevocably dead, she discovers that her foolproof escape plan has evaporated, and something inside her has changed.
With no heartbeat and a disturbing thirst for fresh flesh—especially blood—Ashley finds herself understanding a world that exists beneath our own: a world filled with ghouls, monsters, and night-time intruders. Enter the world of things. Despite Ashley’s desire to be alone and not think about the night of her death, she is slowly drawn into unusual territory, gaining advice from ancient vampires, evading angry pack leaders, and becoming A reluctant big sister. As she did so, she found it increasingly difficult to wrap up the parts of herself that she wanted to ignore, namely what happened that fateful night when she stopped breathing. It turns out that the truth cannot be buried forever.
Death is hard in this upcoming heartfelt story about the effects of trauma and anxiety. But continue? That could be worse. “MEAT EATERS” will debut in comic shops and bookstores everywhere in July 2025.
