Paramount has released a new trailer for Gladiator 2, and it may be more popular for those who don’t like the mix of old and new.

When the first trailer for Gladiator 2 was released in July, I couldn’t help but laugh because it used Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “No Church In The Wild.” Apparently some exec said “we just need to make this a big song that people recognize” and that’s what they got/can get for the rights. Sillyness aside, it at least looks like one of the old blockbusters from before the Marvel era, and yesterday Paramount released a second trailer for the film that feels more tonally appropriate, even if it does have some screaming now Bloody Orangutan This might give me nightmares. Oh, and, it should come with a bit of a spoiler warning, because it has some big reveals, So if you hate spoilers, don’t watch or keep reading.

Okay, are you ready for spoilers? So, it turns out that our protagonist Lucius Verus II (played in this show by the very talented Paul Mescal) is not actually Lucius Verus II’s son . It turns out that Maximus, you know, Russell Crowe from the first movie is actually his father. This probably won’t be a huge surprise, which was slightly hinted at in the original Gladiator, but you might think that when you actually sit down and watch the movie, maybe this is something they’ll save. I think the trailer is a classic example of the whole movie.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mescal discussed the little twist, and when asked if he was shocked, he said, “Oh, absolutely. I was like, ‘Oh my God.'” He explained said it was “an insulting thing to do” to see it written on the page, and [to have] It’s an interesting responsibility you have.

“Gladiator 2” will be released in theaters on November 22.
