A new survey conducted by Elympics from September 7 to 10 highlights the key factors influencing the adoption of web3 games.
The study, which surveyed nearly 1,000 gamers around the world, found that social platforms such as Telegram and competitive gaming models are at the heart of web3’s growing appeal.
With financial incentives and simple access methods to spark interest, Web3 games are steadily attracting the attention of diverse player bases.
What did the investigation reveal?
The survey shows that 79% of the respondents play games every day, and more than half (54%) choose to play games through social platforms such as Telegram. Mobile apps including FC Mobile and Brawl Stars also play an important role, used by 16% of gamers. These data demonstrate the importance of accessibility and seamless onboarding as key drivers of Web3 game adoption.
One of the most important findings is that 42% of respondents mainly do so because of the opportunity to make money through gaming. In addition, 65% of players believe that the competitive nature of the game, especially the “competition to make money” mechanism, is a major attraction. Another 14% cited community involvement as one of the reasons for their continued interest in web3 games.
“In recent years, we have seen the gaming industry transform, driven by blockchain technology. However, while the technology has evolved, it has failed on one key element – and for many of the most avid gamers , getting started with Web3 games is too complicated,” said Tom Kopera, Chief Operating Officer of Elympics. “Our research shows that as social platforms like Telegram enter the web3 world and community-driven skill games for money compete grow, we are seeing mass adoption among gamers around the world. Gamers love to compete to win, so we Games have been developed to meet this need. We believe blockchain gaming will create a more competitive and rewarding ecosystem, transforming mobile gaming from mere entertainment into a dynamic part of our digital lives.
While many are embracing Web3 gaming, the survey also highlighted barriers to further adoption. Among those not yet exposed to web3, 11% cited the complexity of using cryptocurrencies (especially wallets) as a barrier. Some respondents also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of existing web games, indicating that there is room for improvement in this area.
