Rumors of a current-gen remaster of 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn have been circulating for several years, but based on new information, it looks like the rumors won’t be around for much longer.
The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) has just rated Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on its website and listed the new game for PS5 and PC. In case you were wondering, its “T” stands for “Teen,” which is the exact same rating as the original game.
Listings on the ESRB don’t happen by accident, nor are they made up randomly, as games must be submitted and then actually reviewed by the ratings board so that they can assign them a recommended age rating. However, games can be rated months before release. I think we’ll see it before the end of the year, though, which may be why they removed Horizon Zero Dawn from PlayStation Plus Extra.
Online reaction to the remake hasn’t changed much since the rumors first surfaced, with the general consensus being “Yeah, but why?” It’s an understandable reaction: Zero Dawn is only seven years old, but Still looks absolutely stunning. It also received a PS5 upgrade that allowed it to run at 60FPS, making the full-blown remaster even less appealing.
But for Sony, the math is probably pretty simple. According to Sony, Horizon Zero Dawn has sold a staggering 23.4 million copies. The Last of Us 2 Remastered is also selling pretty well, which shows that people are willing to pay for an upgraded version of a relatively new game.
