There’s nothing to stop those crazy college men and women from touching each other in the most toxic way possible. This show should not be called “Tell Me Lies.” It should be called “Feed Me Poison”.
These children carry a lot of trauma and emotional scars. What do people who think they are psychologists always say? Oh, right. Hurt people hurt people.
When it comes to the characters in Tell Me Lies, the writers aren’t afraid to put these dramatic kids through pain.
I knew they were young and some of their brains weren’t fully developed yet, but the writing was on the wall: “Run, girl, run!”
Tell me lies are causing toxic trauma
Has anyone else repeatedly expressed their feelings for Lucy? Obviously, every decision she makes can’t be right, otherwise nothing would happen and we wouldn’t have a show.
Still, with the introduction of Leo, the series is treading lightly. On one hand, she needs to stay single and should follow this thought process.
Leo, on the other hand, is a great guy who can show her what a healthy relationship looks like. If Lucy didn’t let Stephen’s trauma affect her, she might have reached an amicable ending with Leo.
We already know they won’t end up together because of Bree’s future wedding weekend flashback. Then again, the mark of any good show is how much it surprises its audience.
Ironically, Lucy (Grace Van Patten) may end up being the toxic one in the relationship because Leo is such a good guy. Lucy is so emotionally traumatized that her paranoia can easily take over.
She has a man who truly cares about her, and the fear of losing him can be debilitating. Lucy is a sweet girl, but in the immortal words of drag goddess RuPaul, “How on earth are you going to love yourself if you can’t love yourself?”
Tell Me Lies takes time to discover the usefulness of some of its characters
Speaking of finding love, is it just me, or is Wrigley’s sole purpose to make Pippa’s story more interesting? The character has done absolutely nothing since the start of the season.
There’s no way Wrigley’s whole story is about proving he’s not stupid. This is just lazy writing for a character who’s on life support.
I can no longer handle scenes where he acts like a cardboard cutout of all kinds of silly sports tropes and clichés. He was loud, silly-looking, and never said anything of value.
He’s a lovable guy, but let’s be honest, on a show like Tell Me Lies, the good guys simply don’t end up. There’s a lot of potential for an exciting story that doesn’t involve the overused “injured athlete” tired trope.
Then there’s Miss Pippa (Sonia Mena), who gets more time in the spotlight in Tell Me Lies season 2, episode 3. Criticizing the show for doing almost nothing in the episode.
I’d say we should be worried about her eventually getting back together with Wrigley, but we already know the blonde beauty will be with Diana in the future.
Don’t worry, because we’ll find Miss Diana, but first, what happened to Bree?
Bree and Oliver are looking for the chaotic couple of the century
I’m not the only one who gets chills every time Bree stares at Oliver or anyone else she’s talking to. Seriously, I kept expecting her eyes to turn black or blood to drip from her mouth. I may have fallen into this creepy season.
If nothing else, she needed to stop so the conversation could continue. Why isn’t a character telling her to speak louder and move faster when responding?
I’ve said it before in another review that I wanted Bree (Catherine Missal) to let loose and go crazy, but I might take that back.
Since she won’t be going to jail for murder in the future, we know she won’t eventually lose her temper. Still, she’s providing energy to single white women.
Don’t even get me started on Oliver. First of all, it would be a mistake to turn away from Tom Ellis’s sensational role in Lucifer. He went from sexy and charming to melancholy and morose.
No matter what he said to Bree, he didn’t seem worried about getting caught. Plus, we’re already through the fourth episode of the season and still don’t know what’s wrong with his marriage.
My wife seems fine, so what problem can only be solved by having an affair with a college coed? He did realize she was a minor years ago, right?
The show tries to portray him as a sweet and gentle guy, but he comes across as a sloppy guy. Then again, when you have a character like Stephen, the bar is pretty low.
Diana, you’re in danger, girl.
I swear I’m going to get my PhD in psychology by analyzing Stephen’s (Jackson White) narcissism in Tell Me Lies Season 2.
At this point, I don’t even know if he’s consciously evil or if the lying and manipulation feels like an autonomous function. Either way, he’s a danger to everyone around him.
I’m surprised he’s not dead or in jail yet when Bree has her wedding in the future.
However, no one needs a safe place to hide more than Diana. Eventually, she will believe Lucy about what Stephen did to Macy.
Then Stephen will find out that Diana knows. Only God knows what that psychopath will do.
Diana, you are in danger, girl. She needed to be as agile as an antelope to escape from that man. She’s a truly lovable character, but like everyone else, Steph brings out the worst in her.
The saddest thing is that although she “knows” a group for men to hang out with, she doesn’t seem to have any close friends. She was becoming that girl who only hung out with her boyfriend and his friends.
As a man, I would say that a healthy mix of male and female friends is crucial at this stage of life.
At least she and Pippa have a bright future. Hopefully we’ll see that in Season 2 of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies.
Weirdly, for a show where the characters are pretty one-dimensional, they still manage to be complex and complicated. I salute this series for being so intense without anything actually happening.
As far as episodes go, this episode feels like a filler because even though Lucy and Bree act like stage five holdouts, not much happens.
If I had to make any assumptions about where Tell Me Lies season 2 is going, my best guess is that there will be an Eat, Pray, Love episode in which the girls go on a weekend road trip to get all the guys off their Thoughts.
I want an episode where I don’t have to raise my hands in anger at Lucy.
What did you think of some of the character arcs?
Do you think Diana will call the police after accepting what Stephen did the night Macy died?
