The rollout of iPadOS 18 didn’t exactly go according to plan.
According to MacRumors, Apple has canceled iPadOS 18 for M4 iPad Pro devices because the update caused issues on some iPads.
According to reports on Reddit and Apple’s official social media portal, iPadOS 18 is “bricking” some M4 iPad Pro devices (bricking is slang for rendering the device completely useless because it can no longer be turned on).
New iPad mini may be launched soon
“At some point during the update process, my iPad turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. I walked away during the update process, so I’m not sure when it broke. I tried all the reset options, but nothing any effect.” wrote a Reddit user.
Mix and match speed of light
“I updated my iPad Pro M4 to iOS 18. It’s not going well, the iPad won’t turn on, the hard reset doesn’t work, and it doesn’t show up on my Mac,” wrote one user on Apple’s forums.
The issue does not appear to extend to all M4 iPad Pro devices, as some users reported updating to iPadOS 18 without issues. Despite this, Apple has temporarily canceled all M4 iPad Pro updates.
“We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue affecting a small number of devices,” Apple told MacRumors in a statement.
It’s unclear whether affected iPads can be repaired through a software update or if they must be sent to an Apple repair center. Currently, owners of M4 iPad Pro units will not have the option to update to iPadOS 18, which should prevent further issues from arising until the issue is resolved.
