After starring as a mermaid Ken in “Barbie,” WWE wrestler-turned-actor John Cena is already planning his next Mattel movie… and this time he’ll be using his own Legs. Cena will star in the film adaptation of Mattel’s Matchbox toy series.
Hollywood has been trying to make a Hot Wheels movie for years, but it looks like Matchbox will reach the finish line first. Via The Hollywood Reporter , Rescue director Sam Hargrave will direct the film.
We don’t yet know how making a movie about microcars will work, but that’s an issue that will have to be worked out by screenwriters David Cogsher and Jonathan Tropper. Cena has previously appeared in several films, including “F9” and “Fast X” in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.
Cena’s rival “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson revealed that he will star in the monster truck-themed movie “Monster Jam” during Disney’s D23. It should be interesting to see which movie comes out first: Matchbox or Monster Jam. Meanwhile, Cena announced that he will retire at the end of 2025 after his final run in WWE.
