EA is finally talking unequivocally about the next Battlefield . The project is scheduled to be released sometime in 2025, which will see the series return to its modern roots. In addition to the setting, the next game will also drop the specialist/hero character that debuted in Battlefield 2042.
EA also released the first concept art for the game, clearly showing the inspiration for Battlefield 4.

The artwork EA revealed to IGN doesn’t tell us much. You could see attack helicopters in the distance, and a city – somewhere in Europe, it seemed – ravaged by wildfires on one side and fighting on the other.
Vince Zampella took over leadership of the series in 2021 after a shakeup following the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042. Pointed out the inspiration for Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.
“I mean, if you look back at the pinnacle or pinnacle of Battlefield, it was the Battlefield 3…Battlefield 4 era, where everything was modern,” Zampella said. “I think we have to get back to the core of Battlefield and do it really well, and then we’ll see where it goes. But I think the pinnacle of Battlefield for me was with Battlefield 3 and Those Battlefield 4 days, so I think it’s nostalgic for the players, for me, and even for the team.
Another element that Battlefield 2042 tried to experiment with was expanding the map and increasing the player count to 128 players, something developer DICE ultimately abandoned and returned to the series’ established 64-player count. While Zampella didn’t explicitly say that the next Battlefield will stick to 64, he strongly suggested that the game space will be “more similar to previous Battlefields.”
The lessons DICE learned in bringing Battlefield 2042 back from the brink will also be applied to the development of the next game. Zampella emphasized that it does not want to repeat the mistakes of the 2042 launch. “We hope it starts off well,” he said.
To achieve this, the developers plan to engage the community earlier in the process and regain the trust of their core fan base. Zampella said we expect to have the opportunity to test the game next year; perhaps a resurgence of the Battlefield community testing environment, which played a key role in the development of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1.
Interestingly, while the veteran executive and developer didn’t confirm rumors that the next Battlefield game will offer a free-to-play, Warzone-like mode, he did say that one of the key goals for the next game is to offer more than just a single experience under the same banner.
“It’s going deeper and expanding what Battlefield is,” he told IGN.
“We have to have the core. The core Battlefield players know what they want. They’re with us forever, they’re amazing supporters. We need to win back their trust and get them back on our side. And then it’s We’re constantly expanding to bring more players into the universe and see what we can do, so you don’t have to leave Battlefield when you want a different experience. So, we have more things to experience in the Battlefield universe. We are expanding our product offerings.
We expect the next Battlefield to be revealed next year.
