Well, not all things ’80s are making a comeback, as Apple’s Time Bandits series has been cancelled.
Season 1 of Time Bandits started airing on Apple TV+ a few months ago, but I suspect most of you know this because apparently it didn’t do well enough to be renewed for a second season. According to Deadline , the iPhone maker’s streaming service has decided not to proceed with a second season about a month after the final episode was released. If this surprises you, I’m not sure why, since on Metacritic the show has a critic score of 66/100 and a user score of just 4.6/10. It’s not a great start for a first season on television, especially in an era where shows need to be popular to have a chance of being renewed.

On top of that, Deadline points out that the show failed to crack Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings, suggesting that modern audiences really don’t have much interest in it – which also goes along with the warnings Deadline heard about the film being released after Terry Terry Gilliam’s performance in the original 1981 film’s native England as well as in some scenes in the new version is outstanding. Apparently, British nostalgia isn’t enough to keep it alive.
It’s worth noting that the show did draw criticism from actors with dwarfism, as the original films were largely populated by actors with dwarfism, such as R2-D2 himself Kenny Baker, and the show completely avoided this in its casting a little. On top of this issue, one of the show’s cast members, Charlyne Yi, claimed they were assaulted on set.
