If you choose a dialogue option that doesn’t match your opponent’s mood, you will fail. The game does try to help you with clues. In one case, Edgeworth noted that if I chose the aggressive option, mentally weaker opponents would shut up, so when they inevitably cried to me, I rightly remained silent. However, these clues don’t apply to every situation, leaving me stuck. I lost that game of mental chess because I remained silent again while the crying opponent got even more crying.

I feel like a genius when I catch someone lying because I take the time to understand everything there is to know about each piece of evidence, which often involves noticing the tiniest or most cleverly covered-up details.
