If a game launches, it’s bound to eventually encounter cheaters, and Deadlock already had cheaters before it even launched.
It’s only a matter of time before someone decides they have to ruin everyone else’s fun by cheating, but yes, those who are only in it to win seem to have reached an impasse. As 80 Level discovered, users on the Steam subreddit have begun reporting instances of cheaters they encountered in Valve’s hero shooter. A video clip showing cheaters in action was shared on Reddit, showing off some pretty shocking cheating. At least it’s some pretty classic stuff, with what appears to be one opposing player using an aimbot, and at least one player shooting straight through a wall and another going around the corner.

It’s obviously going to be frustrating for anyone who encounters cheaters like them, but it’s still technically early days for shooters, so hopefully Valve can get the situation under control soon. Some users noted in the comments on the Reddit post that if anyone spots a cheater, remember to report them, although the original poster pointed out that the reporting feature doesn’t actually have a cheating option. It turns out you can at least report cheaters in the game’s official Discord, so if you end up running into this often, that’s your best bet.

Deadlock has proven to be incredibly successful during its beta phase, with concurrent player counts exceeding 164,000 two weekends ago and around 10,000 more players the following weekend. Obviously, it’s unclear what Valve’s long-term plans are for the game, including how they’ll monetize it, but for now it seems like Deadlock is definitely the next big hero shooter (sorry, Concord).
