A few weeks ago, animation studio Trigger ( cyberpunk edgerunner and Delicious food in the dungeon fame) teasing it is being developed for Transformers Franchise. As the brand’s 40th birthday approaches, there’s no doubt what its purpose is, the real question is whether it’s just a celebratory video or something more ongoing. It’s definitely the former, and at the end of the day, it’s a pretty good celebration too.
Technically speaking, Trigger’s footage is still Japan-only, but luckily that doesn’t stop fans from uploading region-free versions themselves. Set to Bump of Chicken’s 2007 single “Mayday,” it’s a grand display Transformers As a television and film brand. Almost everything is represented here in some way, from the original G1 incarnation to current classic cartoons such as Beast Wars and Transformers Animation. Even two live-action movie eras have appeared, although it doesn’t look like any of the upcoming versions Transformers One Appear. (If you’re curious, the franchise wiki lists every character that appears, in numerical order!)
Trigger is never shy about showing its love Transformers: Its staff is reportedly full of devoted fans, with Wikipedia stating that lead animators Masaru Sakamoto and Hiroki Mutaguchi, as well as director Akira Amemiya, all completed official illustrations or helped design the Flame Toys Furai model kits. The love for the series is overwhelming, and it’s interesting to see the studio’s interpretation of Optimus Prime and Megatron’s conflict and the former’s death in the 1986 film. Overall, there’s more death and war here than you think, and some of it will hit you in the heart.
So here it is Transformers: Happy 40th birthday, and another happy 40th birthday.
