Longtime Marvel executive Dave Bushore is leaving the company to discover and build new worlds.
Bushore left at the peak of his career after 15 years at the studio, most recently as vice president of creative and immersive development for Marvel franchises.
He directed and executive produced What if…? — Immersive stories Experience, an Apple Vision Pro team collaboration between Marvel and ILM, won a Creative Arts Emmy Award last weekend in the Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming category. The project was exhibited in the “Best Experience” immersive section of the Venice International Film Festival. This is the first time Marvel has participated in the film festival and it is also one of the 10 immersive projects selected globally.
“It’s exciting to be invited to Venice,” said Bushall hollywood reporter. “It’s been really cool to be out there and see the acceptance of this new type of content, and the people, filmmakers and ambassadors who are participating in the experience.”
That’s exactly what the self-proclaimed “story nerd” wants to do more of.
Bushore wasn’t joining a new company, but heading into uncharted territory. He seeks to combine his experience at the intersection of technology with new ways for audiences to engage with the brands they love. His goal is to create exciting, emotionally profound, groundbreaking experiences that continue to push the boundaries of media and entertainment.
Bushore joined Marvel in 2009, when the company released incredible hulkand served as coordinator for Brad Winderbaum, now head of television, streaming and animation. Bushall recalls seeing the first two iron man Watching a movie in the theater with friends and having to explain to them who Nick Fury is.
As the Marvel Universe grew, he rose through the ranks, working in family entertainment, television specials, park development, and now on the franchise team, which handles special projects and initiatives outside of theatrical productions.
his What if…? The work will continue to be discovered and enjoyed by audiences as the experience is released in international regions where Apple Vision Pro is available, such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
THE XR Awards, which aims to recognize achievements in the fields of virtual reality and augmented reality, announced on August 19: What if…? A finalist in the 2024 “XR Film and Experience of the Year” category. The winner will be announced on December 5th.
Bushall said he learned a lot about world-building and storytelling as a part of the Marvel Universe and is still amazed by the creativity of the people he works with.
“I’m going to miss the people, the characters, the ideas in the hallways,” he said. “Nowhere does this do it quite like Marvel Studios, and it’s contagious.
“But,” he added, “I’m ready to bring that energy and big ideas to some new stories in town.”
