‘Watch Dogs’ movie finally completed more than 10 years after it was announced

Ubisoft and New Regency have announced that filming for the video game adaptation of Watch Dogs has been completed. The company celebrated the achievement by sharing photos of director Mathieu Turi on set filming scenes for the film. Turi was an assistant director on Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and a solo director on “The Abyss” and “Hostiles.”

The Watch Dogs movie was announced in 2013, but stalled multiple times (like many Hollywood productions). Production officially started in early July, so the filming progress of the film is relatively fast.

Tom Bryce, who starred in “The Hunger Games” prequel “The Ballad of Snakes,” will star alongside “Talk to Me” star Sofia Wilde.

Turi continues to be in the business of adapting video games for the screen, as he’s also developing a A TV series based on the game A Plague Tale.

The Watch Dogs movie was announced a year before the game series debuted in 2014, and was originally produced by Sony Pictures. The game “Watch Dogs” was very popular and was followed by sequels “Watch Dogs 2” (2016) and “Watch Dogs Legion” (2020). The three-part series uses locations such as Chicago, San Francisco and London as settings, with the open-world game featuring futuristic hackers and gadgets. However, there’s no word yet on the setting or story of the movie version.

Watch Dogs aside, Ubisoft’s long-in-development Splinter Cell and The Division movies remain MIA. One of Ubisoft’s biggest video game movies to date is 2016’s Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender. It grossed over $240 million at the global box office.
