Absolute Batman #1 Facing a final order deadline next Monday, Washington is turning to a tried-and-true social media campaign to create buzz. Tons of buzz, lovely buzz.
There’s usually a social media embargo when a movie is being screened for critics, and at some point you’ll see Twitter abuzz with chatter about whether this is “Marvel wins again!” Or not. But it usually favors total victory.
Absolute Batman #1 will kick off the long-awaited “alternative DC Universe” that’s set to land in October, so it’s a great moment for DC Comics and the entire All In reboot, initiative, or whatever you want to call it The fate of something is very important. So… curiosity is also very high.
So DC sent a PDF copy of Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman #1 to critics, retailers, and an influencer or two.
And hot topics are flooding in!
Now keep in mind that early reaction to a movie is usually 75% positive, even if the movie itself has issues, because no one wants to be removed from the screenings, and there’s a certain excitement that comes with early screenings. Another 25% criticized the film because they were fearless or simply hated drinking. In my own Twixxer buzz, you’ll often find me a bit standoffish…but sometimes I’m shocked too.
Comic friendship is one of positivity and support, and all of these AbBat #1 hits are so positive! I doubt any comics professional would take a preview of Absolute Batman #1 from Scott Snyder and then trash it on Twitter. It just isn’t done yet. It’s better to say nothing and retain your sincere feelings about BarCon.
As it happens, those honors may be well-founded. I’ve also read Absolute Batman #1, which is a very good comic book, so it’s not hard to find things to praise. That’s all I’ll say right now. But let’s see what others have to say!
Dan Mora: I just read Absolute Batman #1 and the re-imagining of Mitosis was really cool, so cool that I had to do a character sketch for this new version.
Final order deadline is Monday, September 16th.
Gail Simone: Hopefully you all know the deal, I don’t promote anything unless I really love it.
So I read a preview of ABSOLUTE BATMAN #1 by @Ssnyder1835 and Nick Dragotta.
Here are the key elements of my unbiased and well-thought-out review:
Oh my gosh, what a comic.
Comic Book Couples Advice: Just finished reading an advanced copy of Absolute Batman #1 by @Ssnyder1835 and Nick Dragotta. As expected, this comic tore apart. Dragorta’s design is so exciting, it’s only his performance and movement that matter. This Batman is a beast. Recognizable, yet new. Loved, loved, loved.
Valeria Favoccia: Thanks to @Ssnyder1835, I had the pleasure of reading Absolute Batman #1, it looks incredible!
Thought “This is unexpected” since the first panel discussion
I love the vibe, the tone, the visuals, hats off to the whole team!
Don’t miss out, order from your local store before this Monday!
Jackson Lanzing: Just read Absolute Batman #1. @Ssnyder1835 and Dragotta don’t miss a single panel at all. A vibrant, heart-pounding, imaginative comic that somehow transforms Batman into a fully realized working-class punk icon. I was simply stunned. Pre-order this book to get a million more copies.
Chris Condon: Just read the advanced version of Absolute Batman by @Ssnyder1835, Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles. It’s a clever, cool, exciting and fun take on the Bat-mythology that we’ve never seen before. It’s new, different, but perfectly Batman. TDKR shades. Love it.
Tom Taylor: A chance to read an advance copy of #AbsoluteBatman #1. @Ssnyder1835, Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin have created some really cool stuff here. Don’t miss it.
Kyle Starks: I had a chance to read @DCOfficial @Ssnyder1835 Absolute Batman #1 (because I’m very special and important) and I reminded everyone that FOC is next Monday. Very interesting, surprising art, very wonderful.
Christian Ward: This is perhaps @Ssnyder1835’s best Batman first issue, and as a huge fan of the Court of Owls, I say that a lot, but reading the first issue of Absolute left me feeling dizzy and bones crunching. It’s everything you want and more.
Jamal Eagle: Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve read #AbsoluteBatman #1 and it’s absolutely (pun intended) awesome! @DCOfficial, @Ssnyder1835, and Nick Dragotta have succeeded in reimagining Batman in an original and complex way. Gotham breathes in a different way and this book is amazing!
Cliff Jiang: I knew this team was going to be great, but it was great on every level. The bold and adventurous reinvention also stays true to the core of the character. It’s Batman AF indeed.
Jock: Been following the build-up to this issue, and one last thing to be happy about…Scott put all his energy into it, and Nick’s art has never been better. Hats off to the whole team! Absolutely Batman, soon
Dan Panosian: Thanks to @Ssnyder1835 – I received a preview copy of @DCOfficial’s Absolute Batman #1…and by the time I finished reading it, I was already eager for the next issue! There is something very different about this book.
That’s it! Comics pros are on their feet cheering for Absolute Batman #1!
Since I can no longer embed tweets, you can’t see all the art included in these tweets, but I thought… you could probably read the entire issue now? One thing everyone says…Nick Dragotta shines on this book along with artistic collaborators Frank Martin and Clayton Cowles.
Another thing I think the preview art shows very clearly: Dragorta has been reading comics. I suspect there will be a lot of discussion about this when everyone gets their hands on the book.
Of course, variant covers have been released one after another! This is Jock’s work.
You may have forgotten that there are other titles in the Absolute series, including Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman and Jordie Bellaire’s Absolute Wonder Woman. I’m really looking forward to this! This is a variant cover by Dan Panosian.
So it definitely looks good! But definitely looking forward to those longer reviews,
