
To commemorate the upcoming MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classic, Marvel appears to be promoting the artwork of one of CAPCOM’s legendary figures – the artist Bengus – A series of variant covers are coming soon to their comic series. Featuring iconic character illustrations from Bengus’s tenure on MARVEL vs. CAPCOM, the cover pays homage to the artist’s original concept art style and designs, which had a major impact on the art and gaming worlds.
Many fans may be too young to remember this, but the MARVEL vs. CAPCOM series was pretty revolutionary to the history of the superhero video game genre. Fighting games borrow heavily from both styles X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel superheroes Becoming one of the first-ever gameplay upgrades and popularizing the tag team combat mechanics of the game itself.
In addition, these series of games were very popular in international Internet cafes and modern arcades from the 1990s to the early 2000s. It has a place in history, thanks in large part to Bengus’s early character designs, which effectively helped develop the game as we know it. With the popularity of doubles and button smashing, arcade 2D scrolling fighting games were essentially over and we entered the era of a new video game fighting genre. Cross-IP platforms were a novelty for gamers – the strategy became so popular that it wasn’t long before it was used in a legendary game…
