Sorry for those who were excited about the prospect of Josh Brolin playing Hal Jordan, but the actor has apparently decided not to star in the Green Lantern series.
Last week, reports emerged that former Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Thanos, or Josh Brolin as he’s actually known, has been tapped to play the one and only Hal Jordan in DC’s Green Lantern series. But that’s just a suggestion, not an outright confirmation, and as The Hollywood Reporter now reports, the actor has apparently given up on the series. THR doesn’t have any other details about Brolin’s decision, so it’s unclear why he would pass on the decision — this will be his fifth time playing a comic book character on screen, so it’s always possible he decided to pass up the character type.

This apparently has DC Studios looking for another Hal Jordan, and they may already have some ideas. In his column, Insider (paywall), industry insider Jeff Snyder claimed that Star Wars’ Ewan McGregor and Interstellar’s Matthew McGregor would have lost their jobs if Brolin refused. Connor will both be considered for the role. So if Snyder is right, you might expect either of these two to show up as classic comic book characters.
At present, there is no information about the show, but the official plot synopsis has been shared: “The show tells the story of newcomer John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two interstellar police officers who become involved in the investigation. There are no casting reports yet for fan-favorite Green Lantern incarnation John Stewart, but considering the show won’t hit theaters for a while, DC still has plenty of time to find the right fit. .
