We’re still a month away from the launch of DC’s All In initiative, which will bring new series and new creative teams to existing games. This week’s batman and robin #13 Mark the author’s conclusion Joshua WilliamsonThe tenure of writing the series leaves a great deal for upcoming creators.
Although batman and robin The book is only a year old, and Williamson has been telling a longer Damian Wayne story since launching in 2021 Robin An ongoing series as part of Infinite Frontier. Damian’s character has been greatly developed under Williamson’s writing. It’s easy to forget that Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul’s son has only been around for less than two decades, and during that time he’s been mostly portrayed as an arrogant know-it-all. As Williamson directs his story, Damian’s arrogance turns into confidence, and he learns to trust those around him (within reason) and recognize his own limitations. Damian also experienced the trauma of witnessing Alfred Pennyworth’s death at the hands of Bane, an element of his story that culminates in this latest installment. batman and robin arc.
The bond between Bruce and Damian has always been the emotional core of the series, and the dynamic duo takes center stage in this issue as they take on Bane and his daughter’s vengeance. The latter two essentially represent where Bruce and Damian started in 2006, and the contrast between the two families highlights just how far the Wayans family has come since. If the last issue’s confrontation between Robin and Bane had taken place a few years ago during Damian’s development, the ending would certainly have been much different, and it’s easy to imagine Bruce siding with the Venom-powered Damian in this issue On the way, it will also go in a very different direction. This is a powerful sequence created by Williamson and the artist Juan Ferreira Beautifully executed.
Looking at his work on this issue and this arc as a whole, it’s hard not to think that Ferreira is on the cusp of becoming the next superstar artist. His storytelling is absolutely top-notch, with emotionally rich characters and vibrant, clear page layouts. Whether it’s dozens of dinosaurs or venomous characters with completely insane anatomy, everything Ferreira draws is imbued with a sense of realism that grounds it in the world of the story. His watercolors bring warmth to his line art, perfectly supporting this foundation and making his work stand out from other superhero comic artists.
batman and robin #13 A powerful, emotional swan song for a creative team at the absolute top of their game. Williamson made great strides in creating a divisive character, fully bringing Damian into the Bat-family and making him feel at home there. Ferreira brings this final arc to life with a masterful visual style. Upcoming Team Philip Kennedy Johnson and Javier Fernandez While the rest of the show is tough, the series is in a good position heading into next month’s run.
Final verdict: purchase.
