Neighborhood Spider-Man hasn’t released its first trailer yet, but Marvel has announced a prequel comic to tie in with the animated series.
Even though Marvel’s animated Spider-Man is set to hit theaters in about two months, we haven’t seen much of it yet. Even so, the upcoming prequel comic has been revealed to be essentially this version of Peter Parker’s origin story, with Marvel describing it this way: “In this new comic series, you get to step into the first place with him. Step by step, as he discovers his powers, decides to become a hero, and even chooses his own name and costume, you’re doomed.

Presumably, that last line hints that his origin story won’t be that simple, and that it will be different from the usual Spider-Man events. It also has a strong team, with Eric Gapstur as artist for the five-issue series and Christos Gage as writer. Gage is very familiar with “Spider-Man” and has created numerous comics as well as Insomniac games.
“I’ve had the privilege of writing many of Spider-Man’s adventures in comics and Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never had the opportunity to do is retell his earliest exploits,” Gage said in an article.
“The exciting part about this book is that it puts a new spin on those formative years. While this is definitely the Peter Parker, the Spider-Man we know and love, he also has a new cast of supporting characters – including You may know Nico Minoru from The Fugitive – with some surprising twists and turns!
The first issue of the comic will be published on December 11th, approximately a month after the show airs, and is currently scheduled to be released on November 2nd.
