Sonoda Kenichi is a creator whose logo is widely known in the projects he is involved in, and Qidou This is his first major mission. Seeing him contribute to animation OVA An unprecedented level of participation was achieved. Sonoda wrote the script himself, did almost all the design, and storyboarded the entire show himself. I heard this person say it himself, Qidou Still Sonoda’s favorite work, and this new Blu-ray release is produced by AnimationEigo Offering everyone a fresh way to enjoy this cult classic.
As an anime, Qidou It’s a single session of 45 minutes OVA– a love letter to the action-oriented nature of American action films and car chase films of the time, e.g. Bullitt, driver,in particular blues brothers. Professional getaway driver Bean Bandit and his partner Larry Vincent become involved in a kidnapping plot that quickly devolves into a series of car chases and shootouts until the bad guys are all killed and they are able to speed away from the police, Go back to your home. The formula for an action movie is simple, and it’s given life by all the detail and effort that its creators put into it. The show is set in Chicago, and Sonoda based the setting and streets on every reference he could find (Google Street View wasn’t available in 1989). The cars are all rendered in lovely mechanical detail (even Bean’s custom-made, 100% fictional buff), and of course, there’s Sonoda’s passion for firearms, with dozens of different guns featured during the show’s brief running time Shown with unique details. This was Sonoda’s first opportunity to make anything he wanted, so he realized his vision in the style he preferred at the time (and pretty much still does to this day).
However, Sonoda’s less pleasant preferences, as well as anime and the 80s in general, are on display. There are several different scenarios fan service In the beginning, all the keys showed how excessive masculinity was in the 1980s Qidou exists as an example. anything from the 80s OVA It’s worth mentioning that hopefully it will feature a lavish dressing scene like those seen early in the rally. Perhaps less par for the course is Sonoda’s penchant for incorporating relationships with disturbing-looking young girls, exemplified in the chilling union of heroine Semmering with her young guardian Carrie. Semmerling is an interesting and unique villain, especially for the time, and the way she treats Carrie seems designed to emphasize her morbid, evil elements, but can still feel unnecessarily uncomfortable at times. It also leads to some scenes of sexual abuse so graphic that they deserve a warning for anyone wanting to avoid such content. Some of these elements will be in gunsmith catSonoda’s successor series Qidou——It can be said to be better or worse. So if you’re a follower of later material, it would be at least interesting to learn about some of the earlier material. The entire journey has always been in accordance with Sonoda’s wishes, and we are aligned with him in all of these aspects.
However, despite its flaws in period formula construction and its strange authorial appeal, when Qidou start scrolling it real Start scrolling. Bean’s Buff is a car that you can’t drive for more than a few minutes without some hair-raising stunts, its wild side-turning wheels and emergency-stop wheels making the whole thing feel like some over-the-top violence speed racer. The gunplay with other characters, especially Rally, is sharp, detailed, and fun. The show’s climactic fight in a parking lot remains a decidedly classic sequence, filled with ridiculous elements like bulletproof headbands and our protagonist punching out a Mini Cooper. It all comes to life with vivid animations created by a strong team of professionals. Especially from the beginning to the end of the big car chase scene, the detail and beauty of the animation have definitely improved. Sonoda’s love for the work influenced other staff members, and if QidouThe short length makes it feel like half an action movie in some ways, but the half we get to see is very enjoyable.
if OVA It itself is a labor of love from its creator, and so is this release AnimationEigo. The film has been cleaned up as much as possible following the HD Blu-ray treatment, and while there’s still some jitter in the frames, everything looks very clear and smooth. Seeing the Chicago backgrounds carefully rendered in high definition and being able to pick out all the tiny details in the way objects like guns are drawn makes getting a piece like this in this format appealing. The audio is also clear, with distinctive gunfire and car noises and the show’s uniquely American-produced soundtrack. old english dubbing It’s also included, but it’s a minor quibble with what’s clearly an early effort, with volume quality being spotty, old translation errors still present, and even issues with matching lip flaps. At least it’s nice to have dubbing To finish, but that’s not the best way to experience the show. While the Japanese version’s modernized subtitles have some issues with timing or staying on screen for too long, they generally read as effective translations. As a reward, Animation Eigo This version includes new German and Catalan dubs.
AnimationEigo There are a variety of other extras prepared for this ride. The disc also includes the original trailer OVAa new Blu-ray trailer, a new interview with Sonoda himself, and a photo gallery. It is worth noting that comments from Animation Eigothe previous version of Qidou Not included in this version as they are exclusive to this version Crowdfunding Activity. However, I do have to shout out another bonus exclusive to this edition: a new slogan on the cover proclaiming “There’s only room for one giant bean in Chicago!” Reportedly written by Coop Bicknell and Justin Servakis exist media obsessionI hope they know, that line earned this version at least half an extra score for pure genius in this review.
Qidou From the embodiment of the creator’s passion to the beautiful production of this release, it feels like a labor of love in every way. this OVA The property itself may be slightly above average, but the history and care behind it make it attractive. Qidou Might not be for everyone, but no matter who it appeals to, it’s a great way to own it.
